As everyone knows, this is the longest shutdown in history. An interesting tidbit to this fact, this is my first one!
I know I am not a government employee, however, I am interning for the federal government, so my paycheck is being withheld like everyone else. But my circumstance isn’t as extreme as the other employees.
There are many stories from people who are running out of money and parents who are rationing their food so that their children can eat too.

Let‘s think about why I chose this title and topic.
After college, my goal was to work for the government in public affairs.
It was a dream come true when I received an opportunity to intern in DC. While I was there I was basically living and breathing politics every day; I was in paradise! I felt the awkwardness during Dr. Ford and Kavanaugh’s hearing that happened on the Hill. The midterm elections were no different from the hearings. The whole office just felt tense, but I loved it. I will say DC is the best place to network because literally, everyone from EVERYWHERE works there. But that’s all I truly loved... being in the area where bills became laws.
As for working for the government, I have mixed feelings. I enjoy the fact that I can say I worked at a government agency but it’s a risk. A prime example: GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWNS. I don’t like the idea of everyone’s paychecks being withheld all because the orange man vetoed a proposed bill that congress passed.
Because of this shutdown, my start date for my internship is being pushed back. Which means that I have to stalk each news station to see what the compromise was. Every time I read an article and I don’t see anything about an ending to the shutdown, my feelings are hurt. Like dang, I can’t go back to work!
All that aside, I actually enjoy working for the government but I’m not against working for a private company after graduating. But the thing is, the location HAS to be in Washington, D.C.
